Bank transfer, eps and Sofort: paying straight from your bank account

Values per casino compared.

How we collect the data →

Anyone in Austria who wants to pay at an online casino straight from their own bank account runs into three terms: bank transfer, eps and "Sofort". At Spinanga, Lunubet, Bassbet, Spinrollz and Kingmaker the Austrian cashiers show the same pattern. Bank transfer is listed for deposits and withdrawals, eps for deposits only, while "Klarna/Sofort" and Trustly are not listed in the data. Paysafecard and PayPal are missing from the AT cashier of all five brands as well. Searches usually want two things: whether a casino accepts payments straight from the account and whether the money comes back the same way.

This bank hub is part of the overview of payment methods compared and follows the money between your house bank and the casino: which bank method is listed at which brand, how long a withdrawal to your account takes according to the data, which fees appear in the terms, what players from Austria report about their banks and what the Gambling Act says about banks. Where Casino.Guru, AskGamblers or LCB give different lists or times, this is shown alongside as a deviation, without preferring any one source.

Many searches from Austria read "casino with direct debit" or "online casino with bank debit" (Lastschrift, Bankeinzug). A direct debit is not listed in the AT data of the five brands, and neither is the classic Sofortüberweisung under the name "Klarna/Sofort". What is listed there are eps and bank transfer, and these two routes are what the following sections cover.

Bank methods by casino

The deposit lists of all five brands include eps, bank transfer and Revolut. The withdrawal lists include bank transfer and Revolut, but not eps. The naming differs in the details: Spinanga, Lunubet and Bassbet explicitly label bank transfer on the deposit side as SEPA, while Spinrollz and Kingmaker simply call it "Bank transfer" (bank transfer). On the withdrawal side all five just call it bank transfer. Revolut appears in both lists at all five brands, which makes it the second account-linked route that is also listed for withdrawals.

Minimum amounts separate the brands more clearly. Spinanga's help centre states €10 as a rule, and its AT cashier lists €10 for card, bank transfer, Revolut, MiFinity and PlayID, and €15 for eps. Bassbet, Spinrollz and Kingmaker also list €10 for bank transfer, card, Revolut and MiFinity and €15 for eps, plus €30 for Bitcoin. Lunubet is the exception: according to the AT cashier €20 for eps, card, Revolut, bank transfer and MiFinity, according to its FAQ "as a rule €10". For the welcome bonus Spinanga, Bassbet, Spinrollz, Kingmaker and Lunubet each state €20. How the amounts break down by method is shown side by side for all brands on the page about the minimum deposit.

Only two brands say anything about when a deposit is credited. Spinanga's help centre says deposits are credited "almost instantly" in the vast majority of cases and that it can take up to two hours. Lunubet's FAQ gives the same range: "almost instantly" in the vast majority of cases, up to two hours possible. For Bassbet, Spinrollz and Kingmaker the data contains no information on this. If the money takes longer, there is a gap between bank account and player account that can only be closed with records from both sides. What to check when a deposit not received is the problem is covered on a separate page.

Third-party sources keep longer, global lists for the same brands. For Spinanga, AskGamblers names EPS, Rapid Transfer, Volt and Bank Wire Transfer among others, LCB names EPS, Giropay, Klarna and Nordea among others, and Casino.Guru lists the eps transfer. Spinanga's help centre and Lunubet's FAQ also mention "Sofort" and Giropay as location-dependent methods. For the AT cashier the brand's own cashier list applies.

SEPA transfer: timing and fees

Bank transfer is the shared bank route for withdrawals at all five brands. On timing, however, the data only says something for two of them. Spinanga states 3–5 working days after the withdrawal according to the operator, 3–7 days according to AskGamblers and 3-5 business days according to LCB. Lunubet's FAQ states 3–5 working days after the withdrawal. For Bassbet, Spinrollz and Kingmaker the data contains no information on bank withdrawal times. In the wording of Spinanga and Lunubet the clock starts with the withdrawal, meaning the point at which the casino has released the payment.

Which method receives the withdrawal is set by the terms. All five brands pay out wherever possible via the same method used for the deposit. Spinanga and Bassbet reserve the right to use a different payment system; Spinrollz and Kingmaker set this out in T&C 6.10, and Kingmaker additionally states the basic rule in T&C 6.2. Lunubet is more specific: if the deposit method is not available for withdrawals, the player chooses another option, and Lunubet names bank transfer as the fallback. Anyone who deposits by eps transfer therefore has bank transfer as the obvious return route at all five brands, because eps itself is not in any AT withdrawal list. Anyone depositing by bank transfer has deposit and withdrawal on the same route, because bank transfer appears in both lists.

On fees, the cashiers and the terms need to be kept apart. None of the five brands has a deposit or withdrawal fee set in its AT cashier; Kingmaker shows the fee fields per method as 0.0000. But the terms of all five contain the same rule in clause 6.8: if less than the deposit amount is wagered (minimum turnover x1), the operator may retain 10 % of the last deposit, at least 0.5 EUR, as payment costs. For bank card or bank transfer it is 15 %. With bank transfer in particular it is worth checking whether the deposit has been wagered once before requesting a withdrawal. In addition, T&C 6.18 sets an administration fee of 5 EUR per month for an account that has been inactive for 180 days.

Third-party charges are a separate issue. A player from Austria reports a deposit of €31 via "pay via Bank" at a payment processor for which "12.59 Euro als Überweisungsspesen für die Einzahlung ohne meine Einwilligung" (12.59 euros as transfer charges for the deposit without my consent) were deducted. The case does not involve any of the five brands, but it shows that a service provider can sit between bank and casino whose costs do not appear in the casino cashier.

For deposits in Austria, eps is the route most closely tied to your own house bank. At all five brands, though, eps is listed for deposits only, and the withdrawal then runs via another method, typically bank transfer. Anyone who would rather not use bank details at the casino at all often thinks of prepaid. Paysafecard, however, is not listed in the AT cashier of any of the five brands; what role Paysafecard at casinos still plays in Austria and where the road to a withdrawal ends is explained on its own page.

eps, Sofort, Klarna, Trustly at a glance

The four names often appear side by side in searches, but not in the AT cashiers of the five brands. The status by method:

  • eps: listed for deposits at all five brands, not for withdrawals.
  • Sofort and Klarna: not listed under "Klarna/Sofort" in the AT cashier of any of the five brands. "Sofort" only appears in the location-dependent short lists of Spinanga and Lunubet, Klarna only in LCB's global list for Spinanga.
  • Trustly: not listed in the AT cashier of any of the five brands.
  • Bank transfer: listed for deposits and withdrawals at all five.

Anyone searching for "online casino Sofortüberweisung" or "online casino Klarna direct debit" will therefore find no matching entry for Austria at these five brands. On the bank side they cover eps, and bank transfer for withdrawals. Rapid Transfer and Volt, which AskGamblers names for Spinanga, are not in the AT list either.

Neteller and Skrill are excluded from the bonus at all five; eps and bank transfer are not on this exclusion list.

Players from Austria are outspoken about these services. One player wrote that they had deposited money "mittels Trustly" (via Trustly) and the amount had not been credited at the casino. On eps, another reports a payment of €250 where "am Ende der Transaktion ein Fehler aufgetreten" (an error occurred at the end of the transaction): the account was debited, the casino showed nothing. In both cases resolving it depends on two parties, the bank and the casino, and on who can prove that the payment arrived.

Besides the bank routes, all five brands list further methods for both directions: Visa, Mastercard, Revolut, MiFinity and a range of cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, USDT and USDC. Skrill is listed for withdrawals only. Anyone who deposits with crypto at casinos instead of via the house bank can, according to the lists, withdraw the same way; the minimum deposit for Bitcoin is €30 according to the AT cashier. The overview of all methods for players from Austria is collected on the home page about online casino payment methods, from which each method has its own page.

What your house bank sees and asks

For players from Austria, the differences between eps and Sofort show up less in the casino cashier than in their own online banking. One forum voice describes the moment when Sofort asks for permission in George: "Mir ist aufgefallen, dass SOFORT für Zahlungen eine Berechtigung verlangt" (SOFORT asks for a permission for payments). Another user puts the concern behind it more bluntly: "Klarna / SOFORT haben Zugriff auf deine gesamten Kontoumsätze" (Klarna / SOFORT have access to all your account transactions). A third is annoyed by a shop that only offers Sofort, "vor allem ohne Alternative! (kein eps zb)" (above all without an alternative, no eps for example), and the reply in the same thread reads: "In AT solln sie einfach EPS verwenden, super Sache" (in Austria just use EPS, great thing). For the five brands this trade-off does not arise in the AT cashier, because only eps is listed there.

The second group of voices concerns cases where bank and casino say different things. A player from Austria writes about another casino: "Lucky day behauptet sie haben kein Geld erhalten! Meine Bank behauptet es wurde übermittelt" (Lucky day claims they received no money, my bank claims it was sent). The obvious follow-up question is which bank document proves receipt by the payee.

The bank's framework is the Payment Services Act ZaDiG 2018. Under § 67 ZaDiG the payer's payment service provider must refund an unauthorised payment transaction "spätestens bis zum Ende des folgenden Geschäftstags" (at the latest by the end of the following business day). The rule expressly concerns unauthorised transactions.

Anyone who does not want to involve the house bank by transfer at all will find Visa and Mastercard listed for deposits and withdrawals at all five brands. At Spinanga, Lunubet, Spinrollz and Kingmaker card payment is called "Pay by Card" in the cashier and the withdrawal "Withdraw to Card"; Bassbet lists the card as Visa/Mastercard. How credit cards at casinos work in both directions and which card rules the terms contain is covered on the card page.

Banks and gambling payments: § 52 GSpG and the draft

Under § 3 GSpG, gambling in Austria is reserved to the federal state; the licensed operators are Casinos Austria and the online offer win2day. For the bank, every payment is governed first by the Payment Services Act. Under § 73 ZaDiG 2018 the payment service provider may refuse an authorised payment order if its execution would breach "eine unionsrechtliche oder innerstaatliche Regelung" (a provision of EU or national law).

In the Gambling Act currently in force, § 52 (1) item 10 covers the role of credit institutions. Forwarding payments is only caught if it happens "im vorsätzlichen unmittelbaren Zusammenwirken mit dem Veranstalter oder Anbieter" (in intentional direct cooperation with the organiser or provider).

This is set to change with the government bill RV 594 d.B. According to the bill, § 56e GSpG is to provide for payment blocks for prohibited gambling, so-called payment blocking. Under the planned § 51a, warnings are to contain features that let payment service providers identify affected transactions, "in Bezug auf Banken insbesondere: IBAN" (for banks in particular: IBAN). According to the bill, § 52 (1) item 10 is to be deleted. Entry into force is planned with the end of 31.12.2026. As of 09.10.2026 the bill is with the Finance Committee and deliberations have not yet started. Until then all of this is a draft, not law in force.

For bank payments, the IBAN reference is the part of the draft with the most direct effect: banks are meant to be able to recognise transactions to certain recipient accounts. How the monopoly, banking law and the planned payment blocking relate to each other, and which steps in the legislative process are still open, is set out in detail on the page about the legal situation in Austria.

Short answers

Frequently asked questions

Is there an online casino with direct debit for players from Austria?

At Spinanga, Lunubet, Bassbet, Spinrollz and Kingmaker a direct debit is not listed in the AT data. For payments from a bank account they list eps for deposits and bank transfer for deposits and withdrawals. Trustly and "Klarna/Sofort" are not listed there either.

Can I pay at the casino with Sofortüberweisung?

"Klarna/Sofort" is not listed in the AT cashier of any of the five brands. "Sofort" only appears in the location-dependent short lists of Spinanga and Lunubet. For Austria the cashiers list the eps transfer for deposits instead.

How long does a withdrawal by bank transfer take?

Spinanga states 3–5 working days after the withdrawal according to the operator, 3–7 days according to AskGamblers. Lunubet's FAQ states 3–5 working days. For Bassbet, Spinrollz and Kingmaker there is no information.

Which bank methods are free of charge?

None of the five brands has a deposit or withdrawal fee set in its AT cashier. Under T&C 6.8, if a deposit has not been wagered once, 10 % (at least 0.5 EUR) of the last deposit may be retained, or 15 % for bank card or bank transfer. In addition, under T&C 6.18 a fee of 5 EUR per month applies if the account has been inactive for 180 days.

What if an eps payment ends with an error and the money is missing?

Spinanga and Lunubet state up to two hours for deposits to be credited. If the account is debited but the player account is empty, you need the bank's payment record and a request to the casino. How to go about it is covered on the page about deposits that were not received.
